Food Review: Pi Food At Dhoby Ghaut | Modern Industrial Style Hong Kong Cha Chaan Teng In Singapore
The Place Located at UBS Singapore Business Hub (former Park Mall) is Pi Food, a new Hong Kong-style cha chaan teng eatery by Hong Kong Head Chef Tsang Tak Ching, who worked as a Sous Chef at Lei Garden (Hong Kong) for 7 years before heading to Singapore. The restaurant takes its name from the symbol π, which represents infinite extensibility, where the 150-seater restaurant spots a contemporary industrial-style interior which is quite refreshing from the traditional cha chaan teng.

The Food The menu is quite extensive and there is a wide array of classic Hong Kong-style noodles, rice, congee, sandwiches and roast meats, along with Canto-Western dishes.
I started with the HK Fresh Shrimp Wanton Noodles (S$10.80), a simple and classic Hong Kong dish which can’t go wrong. The portion is relatively big, so I recommend sharing this if you plan to try more dishes here.

One of the house specialties at Pi Food is the meat, and the best dish to order is the Meat Platter (S$16.80) where you get a selection of 3 meats – Roasted Duck, Iberico Pork Char Siew, Steamed Gui Fei Chicken. My favourite is the roast duck, where the skin is crisp and duck meat is quite tender.

Another meat to try is the Pi Fried Drumstick (S$5.80/lunch only), a huge piece of fried chicken where the fried skin is delicious. The chicken meat is moist and tender too.

Don’t miss out on the Sweet and Sour Pork (S$15.80), one of the better dishes I had here. The pork is tender and the best bit is the well-balanced sweet and sour sauce.

One of the Canto-Western dishes on the menu I tried is the Braised Beef Short Ribs with Carrot Puree (S$26). I am not so big a fan of this, as the beef and carrot puree doesn’t go very well for me.

Other dishes I had were the Lotus Leaf Rice with Roasted Duck (S$16.80), Stir Fried Beef Noodles (S$13.80), and the Pi French Roast (S$5.80/lunch only).

Beverages wise, there is the classic HK Style Milk Tea (S$3.80/hot) and other tea variations.
Rants What is a Cha Chaan Teng without my favourite Bolo Bun on the menu?
Will I Return Again? Pi Food is a great addition to Dhoby Ghaut, especially for the office crowd in UBS Singapore Business Hub. Prices are wallet-friendly and it is a casual restaurant in town to check out if you miss Hong Kong too much. It is also a plus point that it is very spacious.
This was an invited tasting, though all opinions expressed are our own.
