Food Review: Wa-En Wagyu Yakiniku At Jewel Changi Airport | Michelin Guide Yakiniku Restaurant From Hong Kong

The Place Located in Jewel Changi Airport, Wa-En Wagyu Yakiniku is new Japanese Yakiniku restaurant in Singapore under En Group, and it is also a Michelin Guide brand from Hong Kong. Established in Hong Kong more than a decade ago, Wa-En was listed in Hong Kong’s Michelin Guide in 2016 and 2017.

The space of the Jewel outlet spots a contemporary interior where the restaurant is right beside the iconic HSBC Rain Vortex. Each dining table comes with your own grill station, where there is also an intimate and cosy 9-seater Wa-En Bar with a separate menu where you can expect bar bites like Wagyu Tartare (S$32) and Wagyu Foie Gras Tacos (S$22).

The Food For a Yakiniku restaurant, the menu is very extensive where you get different variations of beef apart from the standard grilled meats.

In terms of meat, Wa-En specializes in using quality meat, including directly imported Japanese Miyazaki A4/5 Wagyu meats. For a start, I had the Thin-sliced Miyazaki Wagyu with Japanese Chilli Sauce (S$22), a salad dish with tender Wagyu beef to whet the appetite ahead of the grilled meats.

If you have 2-3 people, I recommend going for The Luxury Wagyu Beef Platter (S$158) which includes 7 types of beef cuts such as Miyazaki Wagyu Sirloin, Miyazaki Wagyu Ribeye, Deluxe Miyazaki Marbled Wagyu Karubi and the Premium Australian Thick-Cut Wagyu Beef Tongue.

The meats are all very flavourful and well-marinated, even for the less fatty cuts like the beef tongue.

I like highly marbled beef and without surprise, my favourite of the lot is the Deluxe Miyazaki Marbled Wagyu Karubi, which is the most succulent of the various cuts.

There is also the Thin Sliced Beef Tongue (S$40) which is a different texture as compared to the beef tongue sticks from The Luxury Wagyu Beef Platter

For non-beef meat, the Premium Iberico Pork Jowl (S$22) I had is quite good as well.

Rants Prices of the dishes here are on the higher end as compared to most other restaurants in Jewel Changi.

Will I Return Again? The meats I had at Wa-En Wagyu Yakiniku are good and this is one spot for a quality Yakiniku meal in Changi, even though the prices are on the higher end.

This was an invited tasting, though all opinions expressed are our own.
