Le Matin Patisserie
After a series of pop-up stores along Paragon and Raeburn Park in Tanjong Pagar over the past few years, Le Matin Patisserie unveils a new permanent location at Ion Orchard on 1 February with a brand new concept café, serving up signature French delights for brunch, dinner and dessert. Expect Chef Al-Matin’s authentic French pastries, desserts and hot mains. a host of brand-new pastries like Roasted Hay & Pecan Tart and Sake Lees & Macadamia, Choux Bun, as well as never-before-served hot mains like Wagyu and Chutoro Brioche Feuilletée, Black Truffle Scrambled Eggs Croissant and Ox Tongue & Wagyu Bresaola Croque Monsieur.

Niu Dian Beef Noodles
With just one branch in Ximending, Taipei, Taiwan, 3 consecutive years Michelin Bib Gourmand awardee – Niu Dian Beef Noodles has finally landed in Singapore at VIIO @ Balestier this mid-February. Beloved for its Beef Noodles, Niu Dian became a favourite for the locals in Taiwan due to their handmade noodles that are chewy in texture, and consommé like broth made from 24 hours of brewing with a variety of quality beef bone parts, mirepoix and curated blend of herbs. Nakiryu
The famous Japan One Michelin Star ramen joint has finally landed in Singapore at level two of Plaza Singapura along Orchard Road, where its Tokyo shop has obtained its one-star Michelin award for 7 years in a row since 2017. Chef Kazumasa Saito is the chef-owner behind Nakiryu in Japan and one of his signature dishes is the Tan Tan Men ($15.90) which is the dish which got Nakiryu their Michelin Star. Other than the Tan Tan Men, there are also options like the Shoyu Ramen (S$14.90), Shio Ramen (S$14.90), and Hot and Sour Soup Ramen (S$15.90). [Read more here…]

Nagai Hokkaido
Originally from Hokkaido, this is the brand’s first overseas outpost after 29 years which opened at Suntec City. There are 15 lunch sets from S$28 as well as four omakase set menus, priced at S$98, S$138, S$198, and S$380. Each set and menu continue to focus on dishes prepared in the local Hokkaido traditional way, using ingredients from produce to meats and seafood flown in from Hokkaido. [Read more here…]

Unatoto
Located in Guoco Tower, Tanjong Pagar, Unatoto is a new and affordable Japanese unagi fast food chain from Japan where it recently opened its first Singapore outlet. The popular and causal restaurant has multiple outlets across Japan, where you can expect the Unadon (Unagi rice bowl) to start from S$9.50. The menu has various Unagi sizes to choose from such as Unagi Don Topped with Egg (S$12), and other non-unagi options like Oyakodon (S$8.50) and Teriyaki Chicken Don (S$8.50). [Read more here…]

Equate Coffee
Equate, the coffeemakers that have always equated each cup of its coffee with art, has opened its first concept store at Orchard Central, bringing with it a new experiential space where coffee meets art. A unique installation set the theme of the space anchored around two uprooted trees planted upside down in the main dining hall. Expect artisanal bakes and signature croissants in an array of shapes to a variety of pastries, each made in-house on the daily. The all day menu will also be available exclusively at this outlet only.

Cloud
Newest kid on the block in Duxton, Cloud is a cloud-inspired (duh!) interior coffee spot in Duxton Hill by the same team behind Equate Coffee. The shophouse space spots cloud filled ceiling and a nice skylight towards the back of the coffeeshop. Filter coffee and limited cakes are available, with the likes of banana cake and brownie cake.

Hellu Coffee
Located in Far East Square close to Korio sandwich, this new coffee spot near Telok Ayer station is already a packed spot when I visited early Saturday morning. The indoor space is small with limited outdoor seats, and it also specialises in Croffles to go along their coffee, with flavours like Dark Chocolate and Salted Caramel.

View Dee Bistro
Occupying the space Sprout Hub which was formerly Henderson Primary School, View Dee Bistro is a new and casual hipster “canteen” which is a Thai food concept. The menu is extensive and other than Thai dishes, there are also pastas, pizzas and one of the highlights here – Thai-style hotpots. A relaxed dining ambience for causal Thai grubs and beer towers, wines or cocktails.

Wa-En Wagyu Yakiniku
Located in Jewel Changi Airport, Wa-En Wagyu Yakiniku is new Japanese Yakiniku restaurant in Singapore under En Group, and it is also a Michelin Guide brand from Hong Kong. Established in Hong Kong more than a decade ago, Wa-En was listed in Hong Kong’s Michelin Guide in 2016 and 2017. In terms of meat, Wa-En specializes in using quality meat, including directly imported Japanese Miyazaki A4/5 Wagyu meats. If you have 2-3 people, go for The Luxury Wagyu Beef Platter (S$158) which includes 7 types of beef cuts such as Miyazaki Wagyu Sirloin, Miyazaki Wagyu Ribeye, Deluxe Miyazaki Marbled Wagyu Karubi and the Premium Australian Thick-Cut Wagyu Beef Tongue. Janie The Bakery
A hidden gem located at Katong Shopping Centre, the Toast Bar of Janie The Bakery only opened recently which offers diners an expanded space to enjoy their bakes. It is a no frills setting as the Toast Bar is a small and cosy space with a long wooden communal table and a small round table, with an eclectic mix of antique furniture. Choose from a range of sourdough toast with various fillings and a selection of bakes such as Coconut Gula Melaka Bun and Sourdough Toast with Homemade Kaya & Butter. [Read more here…]

Buzzing Restaurants
New Combined Sushi And Tempura Course Menu At Mizuki
Sushi and tempura sound like a perfect combination and Mizuki Japanese restaurant located on level five of Ngee Ann City has the best of both worlds. Opened since 2017 in Singapore, it recently introduced a new combined sushi and tempura course menu which combines signature and seasonal dishes from each chef. Every course is a hit for me, and you can expect the likes of Uni on seaweed tempura, Meitake Mushroom tempura and sushi courses like Nodoguro and Otoro. [Read more here…]

Black Knight Hotpot Reopened At Millenia Walk
Black Knight Hotpot has been around in Taipei for over 40 years since 1981, and the steamboat restaurant has relocated to Millenia Walk recently (previously located at Marina Bay Sands). Every hotpot at Black Knight is served with a rich broth simmered for 16 hours. Experience them in 2 sizes – single or double pot – across 7 flavours: Drunken Pot, Fish Maw Chicken Pot, Spicy Pot, Pork Tripe & Chicken Peppercorn Pot, Nourishing Beauty Pot, Sliced Pork Pickled Cabbage Pot, and Taro Spareribs Pot.

Tiong Bahru Bakery Opens At Crane Road
A new addition to Joo Chiat precinct, the latest TBB outlet took over an old coffeeshop space which used to house Mr and Mrs Mohgan’s Super Crispy Prata. The space is a mix of indoor and outdoor seats which spots old school tiles which add much character to the cafe space, making the outdoor seatings pets-friendly as well. Other than the usual bakes and pastries, there is also an all-day menu which include the likes of Croffles and Fried Chicken Cutlet Burger.
