Food Review: Yat Ka Yan Dessert At Tan Quee Lan Street | Popular Dessert Shop Opens Second Outlet In Bugis

The Place Following its success at Fortune Centre, the popular local dessert shop Yat Ka Yan Dessert opened its second outlet in Bugis along Tan Quee Lan Street recently. It has always been on my list to visit the Fortune Centre outlet and thanks to procrastination, I finally got down to the new outlet for the first time. The interior of Yat Ka Yan Dessert at Tan Quee Lan is spacious and open where you can expect a bare looking interior and silver metallic looking table.

The Food The menu is very extensive where the desserts are split into hot and cold desserts, averaging around S$3.50 to S$4 which is very reasonable pricing. Some of the signature items include the likes of Durian Chendol (S$7.50), Yam Paste (S$5.80) and Sesame (S$4.50).

There is also a small selection of savoury snacks where I had the Cai Po Chee Cheong Fun (S$5), a dish I highly recommend going for as it is such a unique combination to pair the rice rolls with delicious ‘Cai Po’. To some extent, the rice roll here reminds me of Chwee Kueh just because it is topped with ‘Cai Po’.

I wanted a variety of hot desserts and hence I settled for the Mini Soup Set Of 3 (S$6.80) where I get to choose three types of desserts in mini portions. I had the Walnut Paste, Almond Cream and Sesame where the almond cream works best for me in terms of flavour.

My favourite dessert though, is the Purple Rice with Coconut Milk (S$3.50) where the texture is just right, and it is denser than the usual dessert stall.

I also chose to add Tang Yuan (S$0.7) here, where the thickness of the Tang Yuan skin is just right for me as I enjoyed the chewy bite. Overall, this dessert is awesome for me.

Rants Even though it is not a small space, the restaurant gets filled up very quickly especially post-dinner, and on weekends.

Will I Return Again? Great to have finally tried Yat Ka Yan Dessert and I like the variety, quality and approachable prices here. I am certain there is something for everyone here, even if you are not a big dessert person. If you are in Bugis, this is one great post or pre-dinner stop.
