Food Review: Hikiniku To Come VivoCity | Japan’s Viral Hamburg Steak Is Now In Singapore

The Place Located on the first floor of VivoCity, the viral hamburg steak Hikiniku To Come has finally landed on our shores in Singapore. The space of Hikiniku To Come Singapore at VivoCity is designed around an intimate counter-style configuration where diners sit in a semi-circle surrounding the central open kitchen and smoking binchotan charcoal grills.

The vibe is bustling, lively, and unpretentious. Do note that the restaurant operates on a walk-in digital queue system and seats fill up fast.

The Food Simplicity is key here. There is only one choice on the menu: The Hikiniku To Come Set (S$27.90++). For this price, you get three freshly grilled beef patties, a bowl of miso soup, a raw egg, and free-flow Japanese rice. Sides to add on if you wish include the likes of Potato Salad with Minced Meat (S$7.90) and Raw Kimchi (S$7.90).

The chefs serve the 100% Japanese beef patties one by one, fresh off the charcoal grill, directly onto your individual metal mesh to keep them piping hot. They recommend having each patty in three distinct ways:

The first beef patty can be enjoyed entirely on its own without adding any sauces. The crust has a smoky charcoal sear that is juicy and tender.

The second patty can be paired with grated daikon radish and house-made ponzu vinegar. The acidity of the vinegar sauce cuts through the richness of the beef.

The third patty can be placed over the fluffy Aomori rice, and you can then beat the raw egg and pour it over the top. It is a comforting finish as the last of the trio of patties.

In addition, there is also an array of condiments available such as oil-marinated green chilli and fried garlic flakes to customise your own bites.

Rants The digital queue system means you cannot casually stroll in during peak hours without facing massive waiting times. Expect some lingering smell from the smoke in the air though I think it is still within an acceptable range.

Will I Return Again? While S$27.90++ is not cheap for a minced beef meal, the quality is honestly quite good. It is worth trying at least once, provided you have the patience to brave the crowds.
