Food Review: Oz Speciality Coffee [Closed]

The Place I spent a large part of my childhood weekends in the Thomson area. For those of you born in the 80s would definitely remember the days of Thomson Yaohan and the many coffee shops that lined the shophouses along Upper Thomson Road. Well, while the shophouses stood the test of times, many of the old restaurants has been replaced by …… new ones. Oz Speciality Coffee is an exception though – its a new cafe in a new building! Hidden behind, at the cross junction with Sin Ming Road, Thomson V is a mixed commercial development, with retail outlets on its first level. Oz Speciality has a rather small indoor space, in fact only 4 seats, with the rest of the seats lining outside along the narrow walkway.

The Food Things you can typically expect from a cafe, nothing surprising. The small cafe, hence the small kitchen, prohibits the cafe from creating any thing fanciful. What surprises here though, is the affordable pricing. Almost everything on the menu, from the coffee choices to the brunch selections, are within S$10!

We had to give their normal Cafe Latte ($4.50) a try to have a good gauge of the coffee at Oz. Well, our verdict? It was good (enough).

What got us excited at Oz was the Thai Iced Coffee ($5.00), especially after our recent Bangkok trip! tRP was in awe with the drink! (Ok, it wasn’t as good as we are making it sound, but do give it a try in your next visit to Oz!)

If we may add, just skip the food here. Not sure if it was due to the shortage of manpower or was it because Oz just ain’t good with it brunch. Our Classic All-day Breakfast ($8.00)  was cold when served and it tasted totally home-cooked (read as: any one could have done it).  Not to mention, the near 20 minutes wait. Just saying.

Rants Good addition to the Thomson area. But with the lack of indoor seats, al fresco dining in the all-year-round summer weather in Singapore might just prove too much a challenge for the weekends. Besides, we could do with a slightly faster service; despite their best efforts.

Will I return again? Didn’t mind the coffee. Didn’t mind the location. Saying yes, only if the weather is good!
