Food Review: Anti:dote @ Fairmont Singapore | High-tea experience to remember

The Place Fairmont Singapore had a revamp not long ago and it was really welcoming to see the positive changes to the hotel as evident from the brighter lobby with a classy touch. I wished I was here for a staycation instead of a meal. We were so excited to embark on our high tea session at the lobby restaurant Anti:dote.
IMG_7349Anti:dote is more well-known for its cocktails and housemade drinks but that didn’t stop us from checking out their afternoon tea. We love the classy ambience, totally fitting for having an afternoon tea session in style.

The Food Modern English high tea is the style at Anti:dote, so expect some Scones, Éclairs and Sandwiches in the high tea stet. There is the Anti:dote Tea Set or the Oriental Tea Set ($38) each, which comes with a selection of TWG tea. The only difference between the two sets is that the Anti:dote set comes with the additional Antidote black truffle scrambled eggs while the Oriental set comes with Dim Sum such as Shrimp Har Gau, Chive Dumpling and Scallop Siew Mai.

The highlight was definitely the Anti:dote High Tea Set which we had. The presentation was perfect and absolutely as pretty as a high tea could get. It was almost a fantasy fulfilled where we could simply open the drawers and be visually treated to a whole array of sweet and savoury treats. I would recommend that two people to share a set if both are not too hungry, or three people to share two sets.

The Anti:dote black truffle scrambled eggs was served first. My first reaction was OMG, check out the scrambled eggs in the egg shell, with the layer of black truffle at the top. It was so good that we could not emphasize more. Spread the scrambled egg on the yummy golden toast, the taste was orgasmic!

There were four tiers to be exact, with the sweets at the top tier, the savoury in the first drawer, the scones in the second drawer and the cookies in the last drawer. Every drawer revealed and exposed was such a pleasant surprise. There is only one food item for each set ordered, which the restaurant could combine two sets into each tier as shown below.
IMG_7396The desserts were so colourful that I have to give credit for the wide selection and display. My favourite was the Yuzu Macaron and Chocolate Tart. It also included Earl Grey éclair, Antidote rum baba, Almond Crumble, Apple Delight, handmade Truffles and Chocolate-dipped Strawberries.

Revealing the first drawer with the savoury treats such as Smoked Salmon Sandwich, Boston Lobster roll, Cucumber and dill salad, Coronation curried chicken and Prosciutto. My favourite picks were the smoked salmon sandwich and lobster roll, which were very yummy. The petite serving of each item made us feel like we were not over-indulging, which was not a bad thing.

The second drawer had the warm raisin and ginger scones, as well as the pound cake. The scones were baked to the right texture, not too buttery and went extremely well with the devonshire clotted cream and lemon curd.
IMG_7416Finally the last drawer had the complimentary antidote cookie which we could bring home. What a thoughtful idea, which we were especially thankful after a relatively full high tea session.
IMG_7421Rants The service was quite slow as it took about half an hour for our high tea set to arrive. The kitchen probably needed quite a bit of time to prepare, so be prepared for some waiting.

Will I return again? Anti:dote has impressed me with the high quality high tea set, cosy ambience as well as the effortless food presentation. I would definitely bring more friends back the next time for a cosy catch up! This has now made it to my top list of one of the best high teas in Singapore.
