Food Review: Hungry Heroes Restaurant | Superhero dining concept in Farrer Park

The Place Superhero is not a myth, it does exist at Hungry Heroes restaurant. I was truly excited to check out the new Superhero theme restaurant Hungry Heroes along Tessensohn Road, about 5 minutes by foot from Farrer Park station. This debut venture by the Samsation is in fact a dual-concept with Hungry Heroes restaurant main focus on meat, while Art Art and Away (two shophouses down at 27 Tessensohn Road) is a dedicated lifestyle space that retails unique decorative art and home furnishing products at affordable prices (slated to open in the second week of December as of press time).

The interior of the two-storey Hungry Heroes feels like a toy museum rather than a restaurant. From the quirky chandeliers designs to every single super hero statue and figurines, it was nothing short of impressive. It has been awhile since we were so impressed by the interior design of a restaurant.

I prefer the second storey of the restaurant, which feels more spacious due to the higher ceiling as well as the art works. The good news is that every item on this level is for sale if it is to your liking.

The Food The meats are the main draw at Hungry Heroes, where some of the specialities include the Pork Ribs available in half racks (from $18) and full racks (from $34), as well as fresh premium meats such as the 150-day Grass-fed Tenderloin ($32 for 200gms/ $42 for 300gms), the 100-day Grass-fed Rib-eye ($30 for 200 gms/ $38 for 300gms) and Lamb Rack ($30 for 200 gms, $38 for 300gms). For bigger groups, our recommendation will be the Hungry Heroes Platters such as the creatively coined Nice to Meat You ($59 per platter, serves 3 to 4 guests) and the Steak-out ($108 per platter, serves 5 to 6). One good news is that all prices come with 7% GST only, with no service charge at Hungry Heroes.

We started with some of the unique Cider brands such as the Alska Strawberry and Lime ($15) and the Albens Fine English Cider ($13). The former would be more suited for the sweet tooth, while the Balinese English Cider had a lighter taste.

Ciders aside, there is also a wide range of Craft Beer selection at Hungry Heroes to pair with the meaty meal, such as the Deschutes River Ale ($15+ a pint/ $56+ a gallon) and the Rogue Mocha Porter ($13+ a bottle of 355ml). Do feel free to consult the friendly staff if you need any recommendation.

As for our mains, we had a go at the Steak-out ($108 per platter, serves 5 to 6), which was a good mix made up of 200g ribeye, full rack pork ribs, pulled pork, sausage trio, 250g de-boned chicken leg, beef stew and veal osso bucco. My favourite was the succulent Australian grass fed Ribeye Steak and the Cheesy Chicken sausage. There is also the option of Fries or Roasted Potatoes to go with the meaty platter.

An alternative to the Steak-out platter is the smaller size Nice to Meat You ($59) (serves 3-4), consisting of Half rack pork ribs, 200g sirloin, 250g de-boned chicken leg and pulled pork. On the tasty pork ribs, it was twice cooked by first braising over low heat, followed by glazing with its house marinades before sending it to the ovens.

Will I Return Again? The décor at Hungry Heroes definitely stole the thunder from everything else. There are not many special theme restaurants in Singapore and we daresay that Hungry Heroes will be one of the most outstanding theme restaurants in Singapore for some time. Afterall, who can resist the temptation of dining alongside Superheroes?
