Food Review: Doong Ji at East Coast | Authentic Korean Restaurant next to 112 Katong

The Place Located along Singapore’s famous coastal food haven – East Coast Road. Just round the corner from 112 Katong, it reopened after a renovation back in 2008 and have been very popular even amongst the Korean community in Singapore. Don’t expect much from the simple setting of the Doong Ji restaurant, like how most Korean restaurants in Singapore, they seemed to agree on a home-styled decoration. One shout-out though, there are very limited parking spaces in the vicinity, so make sure you avoid the peak hours.

The Food Fans of Korean food have been having it good the past years, with new Korean restaurants seemingly springing up at every other streets, there is no doubt the competition has helped to improve the quality of such outfits in Singapore. The first dish I had at Doong Ji was their famous Bibimbap. Unfortunately, it did not impress me.

Another highlight of the meal was the Seafood Pancake – it is definitely one of the best Korean pancakes I ever had in Singapore.

The two other dishes I had at Doong Ji were the heavenly Ginseng Chicken Soup (perfected by the rainy weather during our visit) and Japchae (aka Glass Noodles). Make sure you leave some space to savour the Japchae when you are visiting Doong Ji, it is definitely a must-try!

No Korean meal can be completed without a hotpot of Noodles, accompanied by a myriad of seafood in the kimchi-based soup. We were advised by the waitress that the serving is good for 3 to 4 pax, including the other dishes we have ordered. I beg to differ, and unless you have no other sides ordered, this will then be good for 3 to 4 pax! One thing to note about the hotpot though: have it once it is served. The constant boiling made the noodles a little too mushy and the seafood overcooked.

How could we ever have Korean food without the sides! Nothing too fanciful, but great taste & refillable (as always)!

Will I Return Again? Doong Ji impressed me with its focus on serving delectable authentic Korean cuisine. If I happened to be in the area and has the Korean food craving, I might just pop right back in!
