Food Review: Suprette | A brunch affair in Kam Leng Hotel [Closed]

The Place Following our visit to Suprette some time back, we decided to give their brunch a try after hearing some rave reviews about it. We had a big table at the Kam Leng’s hotel lobby as part of Suprette’s extension, which makes me feel like I am a hotel resident. I am very in love with this boutique hotel in Jalan Besar, so retro in the concept yet there is some modern touch to it, such as having a western restaurant like Suprette in the lobby.

*Suprette is part of our list of 22 Top Food Hunts in Jalan Besar Neighbourhood.

I love how the hotel retains the old Singapore feel, which all the more makes me feel like having a staycation here!

Even the tiles and furnishing have kept the retro feel, which makes me feel like I was transported back to the 1940s.

The Food
I have digressed too much from Suprette, but forgive me because Kam Leng Hotel deserves some mention as well! Back to Suprette, the brunch menu has a pretty good selection, from the standard Big Brekkie known as The Besar Breakfast ($21).

My Besar Breakfast ($21) is almost perfect! The mushrooms are well done with a tinge of buttery taste, scrambled eggs are well cooked and buttered as well as the baked potatoes. The portion is needless to say, BESAR, which means big in Melayu. In fact, it would be good to share the Besar Breakfast with someone else and try another mains.

Alternatively, the Duck Hash ($14) is a much lighter brekkie if you have a lighter appetite, which comes with mesclun salad and pickled vegetables.

Everything else being pretty good so far, the coffee is very disappointing though. I had the Flat White ($4.50) which tasted bland, as the coffee taste and aroma was simply lacking.

The waiting time was quite long, as we waited at least 30 minutes for our food. The redeeming point was that the food turned out to be very good. Reserve well ahead especially if you come in big groups as the tables are very limited.

Will I return again? This is easily one of the best brunch around in town. My recommendation is to have brunch at Suprette, but skip the coffee and head to the better coffee places in the vicinity such as Chye Seng Huat Hardware or The Bravery Cafe.
