The Place Cheap and tasty. These are the adjectives from my sister who had been to Soi 47 Thai Food before me. With its first outlet in Toa Payoh Lorong 6, the second outlet of Soi 47 opened in Lavender, at the space of what was previously AEIOU Cafe along the same stretch as Little Bastard. Huge and packed closely with tables, the owners know how to maximise revenue for sure. There’s not much decor to speak of, as the interior is pretty bare, and packed with diners on a crowded weekend evening.

The Food My first thought is the rather diverse options of dishes to choose from. Prices are mostly in the range of S$5 to S$10, which is considered quite affordable for Thai restaurants in Singapore. For a start, the Tom Yum Soup (Cream Style) with Chicken (S$5.50) is packed generously with chicken slices and mushrooms. It is not too spicy and creamy, which is ideal for me.

Another good starter to have is the Homemade Pandan Chicken (S$6/4 pieces). The pieces are small, but the pandan chicken here is very tasty.

We were craving for bee hoon, hence we tried the Claypot Tang Hoon with Seafood (S$10). It turned out to be quite decent. The texture of the tang hoon is not too dry, along with different types of seafood like prawns and mussels. The portion is quite good to share amongst two to three persons.

For something to go along well with white rice, go for the Stir-fried Pork with Basil Leaves (S$6.80). I like the minced pork here. While it may be on the salty side, but nonetheless is quite delicious.

I can’t go without eggs, and the Omelette with Minced Pork (S$6) has a nice crispy texture at the edges. My only gripe is that it is very oily.

For beverage, go for the rich Thai Iced Milk Tea (S$3).

Rants While the King George outlet is a pretty big space, do expect to wait for your table during peak dining hours. I was sceptical of the way the kitchen prepares our dishes. All the dishes were served within five minutes of placing our orders. Makes me wonder if the food is mostly pre-prepared, or the kitchen team is simply more efficient than McDonald’s.

Will I Return Again? In most aspects, Soi 47 Thai Food is worth a try if you are looking for affordable and good Thai food. The quality of the dishes are not outstanding, but it offers good value in my opinion.
