New Restaurants

Enjoy Eating House and Bar
Located within Kam Leng Hotel in Jalan Besar, Enjoy Eating House and Bar is quite a hidden gem which opened a few months ago. It is located along the same stretch as Subrosa and Char. The casual dining restaurant serves Singapore style dishes, and takes on a retro interior reminiscent of old coffee shop fashion. The owner Chef Joel used to run the now-defunct Rochor Thai in Novena, but chose to focus on serving Singaporean dishes at Enjoy now as he seeks to keep his late grandma’s legacy alive by virtue of her recipes in some of the signature dishes here. Teppan Kappou Kenji
There shouldn’t be much doubt that Tanjong Pagar is a Japanese food district. One relatively new Japanese restaurant is Teppan Kappou Kenji, a casual fine dining concept along Tanjong Pagar Road helmed by Chef Kenji Okumura, by the same team behind Hokkaido Izakaya just a few doors down. The setting of the restaurant centres around the open concept kitchen, where the counter seats give the best dining experience in my opinion. Otherwise, there is also a private room for bigger groups, along with regular dining table options. (Read more here…)

Wagyu Express
By the team behind Aburiya, Wagyu Express is a one month old Yakiniku dining concept along Tanjong Pagar serving Japanese imported meats from Hokkaido at relatively accessible prices. The idea of Wagyu Express is not for diners to rush through their dinner, but rather to provide a fuss-free Yakiniku experience along the buzzing stretch hugely denominated by Korean restaurants, including Sikdang down the road. The interior of Wagyu Express is simple, resembling some of the Korean barbecue joints along the same stretch. (Read more here…)

Godmama
Located at the revamped Funan mall near City Hall MRT, Godmama is a new casual Peranakan dining concept. The restaurant takes up a corner space on level 4 of the mall, with both indoor and al fresco dining seats. The name of the restaurant is inspired by the use of recipes from founder Christina Keilthy mother and godmother, which are heirloom recipes. In terms of setting, the restaurant is quite casual, and Peranakan food is vastly different from the other food options in Funan. (Read more here…)

Cook & Tras Social Library
Located in Six Senses Maxwell, Cook & Tras Social Library is the all-day dining concept at the luxury wellness property in town. The hotel opened last year along with Cook & Tras, though the restaurant welcomed a new executive chef and revamped its menu and concept recently. Helmed by Ian Mancais who is also the Executive Chef at Six Senses Singapore, the concept of Cook & Tras Social Library treads along the lines of European and local heritage fare with an extensive cocktail list. The space, as its name suggests, is like stepping into a luxurious library. (Read more here…)

Izyfook
Located along Club Street, Izy Fook is a relaunched concept between Izy Dining and Bar and Roast Paradise. I really like the Char Siew from Roast Paradise at Old Airport Road, so I was quite excited to check out this brand new collaboration and concept. The space is separated into the bar space at the front, while the back of shophouse is a sleek and contemporary dining space. The interior tones are pretty dark, which adds to the sophisticated vibe. Mexican restaurant El Mero Mero reopens at Chijmes
Opened since 2014, it was only until recently that I knew about El Mero Mero, a contemporary Mexican restaurant which was revamped and reopened a month ago at Chijmes. Literally translating as “the go-to guy” in Mexican slag, the restaurant is run by Mexican born Alejandro Blanco, characterized by marble table tops and leather seats. (Read more here…)

Afternoon Tea at the newly revamped Raffles Hotel’s The Grand Lobby
After close to two years of renovation, the iconic Raffles Hotel Singapore is finally going to officially open its doors in August 2019. I was lucky to get a glimpse of the refurbished heritage hotel, all thanks to a afternoon tea affair at the classy and chic Grand Lobby which serves the Raffles Afternoon Tea daily. My first impression of the new lobby space is its elegance. The floor-to-ceiling Victorian pillars adds to the English high tea ambience, and it does feel like an understated elegance rather than being overly opulent. (Read more here…)

Koji Sushi Bar moves to Raffles City
Taking over the space of Cedele, Koji Sushi Bar opened its second outlet at a quiet corner of Raffles City Shopping Centre recently, with its first outlet at Pickering Street in the CBD. Unlike its Pickering Street restaurant, the Raffles City outlet feels more spacious, with a mix of a long row of counter seats and tables. The main highlights at Koji Sushi Bar, as its name implies, remain the sashimi, sushi and sashimi don. (Read more here…)

Enjoy “Beer-gustation” at the revamped Level 33
This rooftop microbrewery reopened at Marina Bay Financial Centre Tower 1 after an extensive renovation, giving Level 33 now with 3 different spaces including the Dining Room, Social and Terrace. Chef ArChan introduces a new menu, which playfully introduces the nuances of beer brewing processes with the gastronomic experiences of the diners. Enjoy the full dining experience at the Dining Room, or head out to the Terrace to enjoy sweeping views of the Singapore city skyline.
