Food Review: Apollo Coffee Bar At Serangoon Garden | Instagram-Worthy Cafe With Beautiful Courtyard in Serangoon By Atlas Coffeehouse

The Place There’s finally a new lease of life in Serangoon Garden, where the popular dining enclave welcomes a new cafe Apollo Coffee Bar. It’s strange how there is a lack of serious cafe contenders here after the closure of Arbite, and it is evident from the strong crowd when I checked out Apollo Coffee Bar on its first opening weekend.

Opened by the same team behind the hugely popular Atlas Coffeehouse and Colombus Coffee Co., it is a pleasant first impression at the new cafe for me at least. The interior ticks the right boxes for a start – a communal irregular shaped wooden table at the centre, various table sizes to cater to varied dining sizes, and an Instagram-worthy courtyard space at the back of the restaurant with ample dose of natural light.

The Food The menu is pretty straightforward, where the cafe runs a breakfast/brunch (9am to 4pm) as well as a small/large plates sharing concept after 12pm. I wouldn’t say the brunch menu is very exciting as the options are pretty limited as compared to the small/large plates sections. There are options like granola, acai bowl, hotcakes and avocado toast on the breakfast/brunch menu, which are not my top preferences.

Instead, I went for the Breakfast Burger (S$16.50), which I highly recommend. The soft brioche bun is packed with overflowing cheddar-chive scrambled eggs, bacon and served with a separate side of mini hash-browns. I love the overall combination here. The bun is delicious, while the scrambled eggs is creamy enough and tastes even better when eaten together with the bun. Needless to say, crispy hash-brown is always a good idea too.

I also tried the Wurst Rosti (S$23.50) which comes with cheese frank and organic sunny eggs. The rosti is amazing, very crispy texture there and I couldn’t help myself despite my conscious take on carbs these days. Conversely, the cheese frank is overdone for me as I was frankly expecting it to be better and more cheesy.

Expect the same coffee quality as the other sister cafes, which I do feel that it could do with more punch.

Rants The three-legged chairs at the communal table score on aesthetics but lack practicalities as it is quite unstable. Sit with caution.

Will I Return Again? Apollo Coffee Bar is an awesome addition to the otherwise lack of options in the North-East of Singapore. Food is good, interior is on point and I hope that aspects like the operations flow could be smoothed out over time. Regardless, I have no doubt that Apollo Coffee Bar will do very well in Serangoon.
