Food Review: Flaming Chicken Pot (雞煲火鍋) At Yishun | Which Pot Will You Go For – Black Or White Pot?

The Place Located in a coffee shop in Yishun, Flaming Chicken Pot is a relatively new causal concept this year which specialises in well, chicken. The concept is chicken pot which comes in either Black or White Pot, and the kitchen here tries to use every part of the chicken where possible in their menu. The nose-to-tail concept comes about after the founders were inspired after a chicken hotpot meal in Hong Kong.

The Food I had both the black and white pot for my lunch at Flaming Chicken Pot, because it is too tempting to try both. The Black Pot (from S$9.80) here is akin to claypot chicken, with the highlight being the flambé moment when Moutai wine is added to the pot! The dark sauce is flavourful with subtle hint of the Chinese wine, and this pot goes well with white rice.

For the White Pot (from S$10.80), it is essentially a collagen rich chicken broth after simmering ingredients like chicken bones for hours, done together with pig stomach. After enjoying the delight of the broth, additional clear broth can be added to the pot and it then doubles up as a steamboat hotpot.

There is a wide variety of side ingredients like fish paste, pork slices and other vegetables where you can then add to the steamboat broth. Consider it as a 2-in-1 purpose dish! Each of the sides are priced between S$1.80 to S$4.80. As the kitchen has a limited no. of chicken pots daily, do call or WhatsApp them to reserve your pot before heading down!

Rants Eating steamboat may not be ideal during lunch hours, considering the hot weather of Singapore. So the Black Pot might be the better choice if you visit Flaming Chicken during noon hours.

Will I Return Again? I do not frequent Yishun often but this is a good dining option for groups if you are looking for something casual and affordable away from Yishun Central and Northpoint City. Nose-to-tail dining concept seems to be a forward thinking notion which I typically expect from restaurants, hence it is great to have a stall in a neighbourhood coffee shop which embraces such idea.
