Food Review: Hey Yakiniku At Bugis Junction | Affordable Japanese Yakiniku Dining Restaurant With Smokeless Grills

The Place Located at Bugis Junction, Hey Yakiniku is a new Japanese Yakiniku restaurant facing Victoria Street which serves affordable Japanese BBQ experience. The spacious restaurant spots a contemporary light wood furnishing, with table sizes for couples, small and big groups. The ventilation is quite good as well, relatively odourless as I walked into the restaurant.

It is also quite interesting that there have been quite a couple of affordable Japanese Yakiniku in the past year, such as the likes of Yakiniku-GO and Yakiniku Like.

The Food Hey Yakiniku serves mainly US and Australian beef cuts, Spanish pork and Brazilian chicken. There are set meals as well as a la carte options.

I went for the Hey Set (S$15.90) which comes with 3 types of beef cuts – Beef Tongue, Beef Short Plate and Skirt Steak. The set also comes with rice and soup, while you can add on sides like Kimchi (S$1.50).

Overall, the meats are quite good for the price, well-marinated and it goes well with the accompanying dips like their signature garlic soy sauce or the spicy yakiniku sauce.

If you want to have premium meats here, go for the Australian Wagyu MB 4/5 (S$27.90/180g). This is served in thick steak style presentation, sliced thinly. The meat is well-marbled and succulent, flavourful on its own even without dipping the sauces.

Another premium beef cut to go for is the Prime Karubi (S$11.90/100g), which is very well-marbled from its presentation. This is my favourite cut from the menu.

Other meats on the menu include the likes of Chunk Roll (S$9.90/100g), Tontoro (S$6.90/100g), and Pork Belly (S$5.90/100g). The pork is quite flavourful too if you want an alternative to beef.

There are also a couple of donburi on the menu, and I tried the Wagyu Steak Don (S$20.90). Served with generous slices of beef with seaweed, you can also add on sides like Onsen Egg (S$1.50).

Rants No reservations are taken at Hey Yakiniku.

Will I Return Again? For a relatively more affordable Yakiniku experience, Hey Yakiniku is worth checking out. The accessible location in Bugis is also a plus point, especially for the tertiary institutions and offices in the vicinity.

This was an invited tasting, though all opinions expressed are our own.
