Food Review: Crystal Jade Golden Palace At Paragon, Orchard Road | Fine Cantonese & Teochew Cuisine
The Place Tucked away on level five of Paragon Shopping Centre, Crystal Jade Golden Palace is the crown jewel of Crystal Jade Group. It is a grand setting right from its entrance, where the dining ambience is refined with its main dining hall with high ceiling, as well as a couple of private dining rooms. If you are looking to impress the in-laws or host a business lunch along Orchard Road, this remains one of the safest bets in town.

The Food What sets Golden Palace apart from its sibling outlets is its dual culinary focus. Alongside refined Cantonese staples and dim sum, the brand also specialises in traditional Teochew delicacies with a modern twist. The head chef of Crystal Jade Golden Palace and the group is Chef Martin Foo.

My meal started with the Teochew Happiness Four Platter (S$58) which showcases a good variety of bites like Braised Duck, Octopus, Pork Knuckle and Drunken Duck’s Tongue.

Next up was a nourishing soup – Double-boiled Fish Maw, Sea Whelk with Aged Tangerine Peel & Salted Olive Chicken Soup (S$42 per person). Served in a claypot, this luscious soup packs a whole lot of goodness and collagen with various premium ingredients. Other than the above, there is also a good portion of chicken meat and feet within.

For fish, I had their Coral Trout pan-fried with Radish & Yellow Bean in Teochew Style (Market Price (Seasonal)). The live fish is very fresh, and the pan-fried style is one of the many ways to choose how you would prefer your fish to be cooked.

From the wok-fried menu, I enjoyed the Sautéed Beef Cube with Garlic (S$36 – S$45) where the price depends on the type of beef used on the day. Expect tender and flavourful beef cubes which are easy to enjoy.

If you love duck, the Crispy Applewood Smoked American Duck (S$78 for Half / S$150 for a Whole Duck) is one dish I would recommend. The duck is presented in a wooden tray before being unveiled with a smoky reveal. Crispy skin as its name suggests, and the duck meat spots a nice smoky aroma.

For greens, I had the Poached Mustard Green with Conpoy & Shrimp Roe (S$28), before having the Braised Crystal Potato Noodle with Sole Fish, Minced Meat & Garlic (S$26).

I highly recommend the noodle as a carb choice, which comes in flat glass noodles and deeply aromatic dried flatfish powder accents. It is a little similar to fried kway teow but tastes even better.

Last but not least, I ended the meal with the Gula Melaka Ice Cream with Red Kidney Bean, Sago & Coconut Milk (S$9.50).

Rants With its premium standing, prices here can escalate quickly especially for the live seafood or bird’s nest categories.
Will I Return Again? For a refined Chinese restaurant which bridges Cantonese and Teochew cuisines seamlessly, Crystal Jade Golden Palace remains a highly reliable and consistent performer in the heart of Orchard Road.
