Food Review: Uma Uma Ramen

The Place After trying Menya Musashi last month, I was excited to check out Uma Uma Ramen, one of the latest player in our exciting ramen scene. Originally from Fukuoka, Japan, Uma Uma prides itself as the original Hakata Ramen. I like the fact that it is located in the less crowded part of Orchard at Forum Shopping Mall, but this does not seem to diminish the crowd level at all as it was fully packed on a Friday evening. Seats are quite limited and the tables are close together as well, so be sure to arrive well ahead of the crowd.

The Food As per most Ramen specialty joint, the one page menu at Uma Uma is as concise as it can get, mainly offering just 2 types of Ramen – Uma Uma Ramen ($14) and the Spicy Chasiu Ramen ($16).

Predictably, I chose the Uma Uma Ramen ($14) as this is the specialty ramen here. The Uma Uma Ramen has Chasiu and Black Fungus garnishes in Spicy Miso broth. I like the thin Hakata style Ramen noodles, which is believed to be able to provide a larger surface area when taken with the broth, resulting in a tastier ramen. The broth is concentrated enough for my liking, though it is not as concentrated as the ones from Menya Musashi in comparison. Serving wise, I think that the ramen portion is quite small and will not satisfy a ravenous soul.

Will I return again? With the above average ramen standard offered at Uma Uma at affordable prices, it will not be long before I return again to satisfy my ramen craving.
