Food Review: Ramen Keisuke Tori King | Chicken broth ramen at 100AM mall

The Place 100AM mall is one of the latest revamp attempt by Amara Hotel in Tanjong Pagar and one of the biggest draw to this mall has got to be Ramen Keisuke Tori King. Opened by Japanese celebrity chef Keisuke Takeda who is also the Tokyo Ramen King 2011 Championship winner, the main draw of Tori King is its Chicken broth ramen.

As it was officially opened just about a month ago, it is inevitable to spot a queue during peak hours, especially so with its rather limited seats. Thankfully, the turnover is also high and most customers will leave as soon as they are done with their meal.

I like the nostalgic old Japanese interior ambience of Tori King.

The Food The menu here is simple as there are only 3 flavours of the chicken broth ramen to choose from – Original (the most authentic), black spicy or green spicy. I like the fact that I can customise my own ramen such as the level of oil (no oil, less oil or normal) and even what ingredients I do not wish to be added in the ramen (such as spring onion / beansprout).

In addition, there is free flow of boiled eggs at each table for customers, at no additional cost.

Upon ordering, we were given sesame and given the option of grinding them yourself. It was quite a fun experience to grind my own sesame, which can be added to the ramen for additional flavour once it is grinded to fine texture. I personally do not feel that the flavour of the ramen varied differently with the sesame and I pretty much enjoyed the ramen in its original broth flavour.

I had the original Tori King Ramen with egg ($13.90) and I absolutely love it. Each bowl of ramen comes generously with chicken thigh which is boiled and grilled over 8 hours. The delicious chicken broth is a combination of chicken bones and chicken feet, boiled diligently over 8 hours as well. The chicken based broth also boast of collagen which supposedly has some health benefits.

For non-egg lovers, the same ramen can be enjoyed at only $11.90, with just the chicken thigh as the main ingredient.

Rants The waiting time is the only point worth my 2 cents’ worth of rant. There is also not much of a choice since there is only one kind of ramen being served but this can be easily forgiven with the high quality ramen at Tori King.

Will I return again? There are indeed no lack of Ramen joints in Singapore these days and Tori King happens to be one which I will recommend to others, simply for its high quality and value for money Ramen. The original ramen cost just $11.90 with basic ingredients (chicken thigh) and I have forgotten to add that the ramen is refillable to your heart’s content.
