Snippets: Will you be my Valentine?
It is just a week to Valentine’s Day, some say the most commercialised day of the year. Do we actually need a day just to say how much we love our other day? Or as the cliche saying goes, everyday is Valentine’s Day. But let’s face it, everyone loves to be pampered to some degree. It may be a simple surprise, or an elaborated surprise. We love to be appreciated in every simple way, though no one will resist being appreciated in the most elaborated fashion either.
If you are still looking for some inspirations to impress your first date, or celebrate your 100th month-niversay this V-day, we have some suggestions, and hopefully it will be of some inspiration.
The budget conscious:
Set @ Pomo
One of the best deals in town which we have heard for this V-day is SET, a contemporary restaurant at POMO mall serving its usual set courses for all couples. The price remains at the usual $38++ per person for 5 course, definitely a steal for the budget conscious looking for a decent dining venue in town.
Price: $38++ per person
La Cuisson
For a casual French dining without burning a huge hole in the pocket, La Cuisson will be offering set meals for the 13 and 14 Feb at $118++ and $128++ per couple for a 4 course menu, including the likes of Seafood Panache, Wagyu Tenderloin, Iberico Collar and Panna Cotta with Chocolate Fondant. While not exactly that cheap for a casual French restaurant, it is still relatively reasonably priced for the occasion as compared to other higher end restaurants.
Price: $118++(13 Feb) and $128++(14 Feb) per couple
The deep pockets:
Keyaki
This is one fine Japanese restuarant in Pan Pacific which will be highly recommended if you want to impress your date or pamper your partner. Keyaki’s Chef Hiroshi Ishii will be preparing a delectable seven-course kaiseki with fresh ingredients from Japan, with a glass of Champagne. I have been to Keyaki once and am in love with the zen ambience and quality of the food.
Available for dinner at Keyaki on 14 February 2015, highlights include Wagyu Beef Teppanyaki, Grilled Chicken with Orange, and Cold Sour Plum Soba.
Price: $198 per adult, inclusive of a glass of Champagne
Time: 6:30pm to 10:30pm
Venue: Keyaki (Level 4), 7 Raffles Boulevard, Singapore 039595
Osteria Mozza
I love Pizzeria Mozza for its casual vibe and good pizza, with the other side of the restaurant being the slightly more romantic and fine dining setting Osteria Mozza. The special V-day menu includes the likes of Beetroot and Goat Cheese Tortelli with brown butter and sage, and Porcini-rubbed Veal Chop with wild mushrooms & Cauliflower Gratinate. The desserts seem specially curated for chocolate lovers, with the Chocolate Trio – Hot Chocolate, Dark Chocolate truffle, Guianduia gelato sandwhich.
Price: 4-course menu at $138++ per person
Edge
If having a set meal is too predictable, how about going for a satisfying buffet together at the award winning Edge? The special tweak to the usual sumptuous buffet spread is the 16 different presentations of crab dishes featuring Alaskan King Crab; White Pepper Crab; Salted Egg Yolk Crab; Steamed Chilli Crab Bun; Squid Ink Pasta with Crab Alfredo Sauce; and Crab, Guacamole and Sundried Tomato Pizza. Did we see Salted Egg Yolk Crab?
Even the desserts speak volumes of the Valentine’s theme. Expect a wide selection of rose-themed desserts such as Rosella Macaron, Lychee Rose Pate Choux, Rose Sabayon with Crumble, and Rose Tea Financier.
Price: 10-13 Feb ($88 per adult inclusive of unlimited local beverages, coffee and tea), 14 Feb ($148 per adult inclusive of one glass of Veuve Clicquot Champagne, unlimited local beverages, coffee and tea)
Date: 10 to 14 February 2015
Time: 6:30pm to 10:30pm
The White Rabbit
Although I have only been to The White Rabbit once, the rustic old chapel charm left me a deep impression. I am still amazed at the setting of the restaurant within an old chapel, which is also a popular wedding dinner venue for couples over the years. This is definitely one romantic spot to have an intimate conversation and indulge in good food. Expect the likes of White Pearl Oysters, Seared Foie Gras and Wagyu Beef on its V-day menu.
Price: $128++ per person for 5 course dinner
Hai Tien Lo
How about an oriental cuisine for a change this V-day?
Hai Tien Lo Head Chef Lai Tong Ping will be crafting an exquisite six-course menu complemented with a glass of Champagne. We can always expect quality food from Hai Tien Lo for every festive occasion with the specially curated dishes, with some highlights this time round such as the Poached Australian Wagyu Beef with Garlic Crumbs, sweet Sea Perch Fillet prepared Two Ways, and Wok-fried Fish Noodles with Sea Cucumber and Scallop. This exclusive menu is available for orders of two sets and above.
Price: $168 per adult
Time: 11:30am to 2:30pm; 6:30pm to 10:30pm
Venue: Hai Tien Lo (Level 3), 7 Raffles Boulevard, Singapore 039595
Of course, at the end of the day, it is the quality time spent with the right one which matters most, not the location. A simple home cooked dinner can be an even sweeter gesture, or maybe having some sandwiches and cider at Gardens by the bay may do the trick as well. Good luck!
