Food Review: Pontini @ Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel | Refreshed Italian buffet spread [CLOSED]

The Place You read it before in our earlier review of Pontini. Pretty much nothing has changed here, except that the Wine Cellar at the entrance of the restaurant has now been converted into a stylish cheese room!
IMG_8127eThe Food We had a rather raving review of Pontini last year when we first visited this Italian establishment for its Italian Semi-Lunch Buffet. Last month, Pontini decides to up its game by refreshing and upsizing their buffet spreads. Well, this came with a higher price tag of course, with the Buffet now at $58 per adult and $29 per child. Question, is this worth a second visit?
IMG_8215eWhat’s new here? Many. From a Live Rotisserie Corner, to a new Cheese Room, to additional buffet spread options and the most exciting of all, a Pan-Seared Foie Gras live station!
IMG_8194The Roasted Spring Chicken served at the Rotisserie corner was impressively presented, although the chicken tasted slightly bland and had to be jazzed up by the red wine jus and lemon. IMG_8236e For fans of cheese, rejoice! The selections of cheeses is extensive, accompanied by a wide range of Italian jams and honey.

The most exciting of the changes for the Panda was the Pan-Seared Foie Gras live station! Generously served, done a la minute, this will easily make the higher buffet price worth the while. Just watch your calories while enjoying this!

Pontini also made couple of changes to their free-flow Pizza and Pasta selections, with a fuss-free ordering with diner ticking off their choice of pizza toppings and pasta selections. Whilst not able to try them all, we will recommend that you try the Ricotta & Spinach Ravioli with either the Roasted Italian Sausage or Black Truffle Carbonara sauce.
IMG_8201eFor mains, each diner will only get to choose once from its selection (Oven-baked Barramundi fillet, Tuscany style mixed Seafood Pot, Roasted NZ Lamb Rack and Braised Short Ribs). My recommendation, go for either the Oven-baked Barramundi or the Roasted NZ Lamb Rack. The lamb rack here ain’t gamy, done just right for a medium rare; if only I could have one more of the rack! Skip the Braised Short Ribs though, way too tough.
IMG_8252e IMG_8276eRants They didn’t hear our previous rant (maybe it’s too soft), but Pontini is still missing out on having Italian Gelato to complete our buffet experience. What’s an Italian buffet without some Gelato?

Will I Return Again? Admittedly, this refreshed buffet for Pontini is proving to be a good version 2.0. With a bigger spread now, and reasonably satisfying mains for a buffet, Pontini remains a top choice for an Italian Buffet craving.
