Halcyon & Crane
By the team behind Birds of A Feather, Halcyon & Crane is a brand new cafe concept in The Paragon at Orchard Road. The concept is Modern European style cafe Sichuanese flavours in their dishes, with a cosy and open concept space. Some brunch favourites for us are the Cured Sausage Shakshuka and King’s Chicken Hash Benedict. It is a nice spot to chill over food in town, and I also like it that the Sichuanese flavours take on a more nuanced approach. [Read more here…]

Bar Cicheti
By the same team behind Cicheti at Kandahar Street, Bar Cicheti is a charming Italian restaurant which is perfect for that post work week dinner.  Located along the short Jian Chuan Road, expect a concise one page menu which features a good list of antipasti and wide selection of pastas. Yes, pastas are the highlights at Bar Cicheti. For antipasti, the Burratina is a must order, where you get grilled sourdough bread with burnt onion jam along with burrata. For pasta, we enjoyed the Fusilli Nero, a squid ink pasta tossed with Japanese sea urchin, basil and anchovy crumbs.

Go-Ang Pratunam Chicken Rice
The popular Thai franchise of the 50 years odd brand in Bangkok has opened at Nex in Serangoon, serving affordable Thai style Chicken Rice. Prices start from S%5.50 for the Single Portion Chicken Thigh, and the menu also boasts other dishes for sharing like the Stir Fried Sliced Tofu with Dark Soya Sauce and Steamed Seabass. The cafe scene at Lavender has a new addition, aptly named Apartment. Located at the corner of Lavender Street and Tyrwhitt Road, the spacious set up of Apartment coffee is very welcoming for me. Apartment is not where you get your brunch food, as the menu is merely coffee and limited non-coffee beverages like green tea. Some pastries and cakes are also served, though the flavours are limited. As for the beans, expect the likes of seasonal single origin like Colombia or Kenya.

Niku Kin
Love yakiniku? This few days old yakiniku restaurant along Craig Road specialises in Hokkaido wagyu beef, with more than a dozen cuts on the menu. The long shophouse setting is cosy and intimate, with tables mainly catering for four persons. Other than meats, the side dishes are quite varied with options like wagyu beef sushi, beef tartare and even ramen.

Dumpling Darlings
Good dumplings and noodles at an affordable price in Amoy Street. That pretty much sums up Dumpling Darlings, which serves dumplings in six different flavours and noodles like Sichuan Pork Noodles. The ambience is casual, though the space is relatively small. We reckoned that this restaurant should be the new night spot in the block with opening hours till 2am on weekends. [Read more here…]

The new contemporary Chinese and Cantonese restaurant took over the space of what was previously Jin Shan Lou. The restaurant is helmed by Chef Fok Kai Yee, previously from Summer Pavilion and Chef Jason Lau who was previously at Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck Restaurant.  The menu is an extensive selection of classic Cantonese dishes and dim sum spread, don’t leave without trying the Royal Secret Recipe Smoked Duck, smoked with 15 years naturally fermented aged Pu-Er and Chrysanthemum tea leaves. The Sampan
Nope, the restaurant is not on a boat as the name suggests. The Sampan, a relatively new Pan-Asian restaurant along the Singapore River takes reference to its current location where countless boats used to sail down the river a few decades ago. The menu here is more suited for sharing, denominated by small and large plates where you can expect Asian flavours like Vietnamese spring rolls, Sri Lankan curry and Chinese ingredients. The three-storey shophouse space is also spacious and suited for various dining groups, including a private dining space on level three.

Blue Jasmine presents a new Thai experience
Located at Little India’s Park Hotel Farrer Park, Blue Jasmine is helmed by a Thai chef from Chiang Rai and has seen a revamp of its menu recently for its second year of operations. As a Thai-halal restaurant, the dishes on the menu are a mix of classic Thai dishes and other Thai province specialities. There are familiar dishes such as Tom Yum, as well as lesser known provincial dishes like ‘Poh Tek’. Other than its ala carte menu, the restaurant also offers buffet dinner every Friday and Saturday. The Lobby Lounge introduces new Classic Afternoon Tea: Checkmate 
An Afternoon Tea Chess Set? InterContinental Singapore has up the high tea ante with a special collboaration between Pastry Chef Ben Goh with world-renowned premium chocolate manufacturer Valrhona’s Master Pastry Chef Brice Konan Ferrand to create six chocolate-based desserts inspired by the classic board game. For savories, the one which left me an impression is the Foie gras magnum coated with chocolate and almond, an interesting take on foie gras. Classic Afternoon Tea: Checkmate is available at The Lobby Lounge from 1 November 2018 to 31 January 2019, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm daily. The set is priced at S$88++ for two persons, inclusive of a fine selection of loose-leaf teas and coffee; and at S$138++ for two persons, inclusive of a half-bottle Taittinger Brut Champagne (375ml), and a fine selection of loose-leaf teas and coffee.

Greenwood Fish Market opens fourth outlet at Dempsey
The well-known seafood restaurant from Bukit Timah opened its newest and largest outlet recently, taking over the space of what was previously House @ Dempsey. The Dempsey space is very spacious, where you can expect a seafood market and bakery sections in addition to the dining space. The menu is varied, from its signature Fish & Chips to seafood and pasta options. Prices are also fairly reasonable for the Dempsey precinct. [Read more here…]

Platinum Vibes opens at Marina at Keppel Bay
Located at the Marina at Keppel Bay, Platinum Vibes is an exclusive space for American Express The Platinum Card (psst, this is to be differentiated from the Platinum Credit Card) and the by-invitation-only Centurion Card. Taking up two units on level two of the Marina, the first unit houses a lounge with a sweeping view of the marina and the luxe condominiums along Keppel Road. Chill here with finger bites and sip on wines with more than 100 labels available, including many rated above Robert Parker 90.For dining, the other unit houses a restaurant with a menu conceptualised by Chef Emmanuel Stroobant of one Michelin-starred Saint Pierre and Chef Yoshio Sakuta of two Michelin-starred Shoukouwa. Do expect a myriad of French and Japanese items available on the menu here.

Alma by Juan Amador introduces new menu
The One-Michelin starred restaurant within Goodwood Park Hotel serves Asian influenced Modern European cuisine. Helmed by Chef Haikai, the restaurant launches a new dinner menu recently as part of its third anniversary. The new dinner menus come in 4-course (S$117++), 6-course (S$158++) and 8-course (S$197++) options. Lunch sets are definitely more value for money, with 3-course at S$39++ without the snacks and petit fours at the end unlike dinner. The Ohmi Beef and Homemade Potato Bread are lovely. Opus Bar & Grill Introduces New Premium Butcher’s Cuts
At S$128++ for two persons, this new platter from Hilton Singapore features four types of meat. Expect the likes of 500g to 600g Rangers Valley Angus OP rib, 150g Margaret River Wagyu Flank Steak, 400g to 500g Braised Beef Short Ribs with aromatic spices, grain-fed, marble score 3 and the Open-flame Jarrah Wood Charcoal Grilled Gourmet Beef Sausages. The portions is definitely good for two persons, with my favourite cut being the succulent OP rib. If you are a wine lover, it is also ideal to come between Sunday and Thursday where you get to enjoy 2-hour free flow wine; or  50% off selected wine by the bottle on Friday and Saturday.
