Food Review: Jun Omakase At Samsung Hub | Affordable Japanese Omakase In Raffles Place

The Place My love for Japan can only be translated to food these days given that leisure travel will not happen soon. I was attracted to Jun Omakase recently as it serves a relatively value for money lunch omakase at S$68++ per person. The contemporary looking Japanese restaurant is located in Samsung Hub in Raffles Place, and spots 17 seats, table seating and 2 private rooms.

The Food While the dinner omakase starts from S$98, I am going to share my Lunch Omakase experience. At S$68++, the 7-course meal is inclusive of 2 Starters, Assorted Sashimi, 2 Mains, Assorted Sushi and Dessert.

For starters, I had the Century Egg and the refreshing Japanese Tomatoes.

Sashimi is my favourite. The Assorted Sashimi next is a good mix of 5 types of sashimi – Amberjack, Swordfish, Salmon Belly, Bonito and Tuna Belly. Each slice is relatively thick, which I am pleased about. The flavours are fresh and without a doubt, the tuna belly is the best!

For the mains, 2 types of cooked dishes are served consecutively. The first was the Steamer Radish with Smoked Duck, which is quite an interesting combination. This is not a very conventional Japanese course, so I do feel that the chefs here are quite experimental.

The second mains is the Salmon with Vegetable Sauce. Nothing much shout about for this dish as there is not much surprise for me.

The last savoury course is the Assorted Sushi and I was served a mix of Salmon, Amberjack and Sea Bream. Alternatively, you can also opt for other options like a Mini Chirashi Don, Unagi Rice or Soba.

The Rantee opted for the Chirashi, which is decently good.

Dessert is a simple Yuzu Jelly, a refreshing note to conclude the meal.

Rants There is not much of a surprise element for me, at least for the lunch omakase.

Will I Return Again? Good value omakase though I wouldn’t say it is mind-blowing for me. That said, Jun Omakase is still worth trying if you are in the mood for a casual omakase experience without the fine dining etiquette.
