Food Review: Big Prawn Noodle 大虾面 At Compassvale Lane, Seng Kang | Competent Prawn Mee Stall Tucked Away In A Coffeeshop
The Place It is not often that I get excited about hawker food in Sengkang, but the Big Prawn Noodle stall at Compassvale Lane got me excited after seeing Misstamchiak’s IG post. The 6 months old stall is located in a small coffeeshop, about 10-15 minutes walk from Sengkang MRT station. The stall is opened from morning till about 6pm in the evening.
On a side note, I have tried a couple of prawn noodles stalls over the past few months from Da Dong Prawn Noodles, Prawn & Mee to Loyang Way Big Prawn Noodles.
The Food I ordered a mix of the Big Prawn Noodle (S$5.50) and Pork Ribs Prawn Noodle (S$6), a soup and dry version each. It is almost customary by now that whenever I have prawn mee, I will attempt to try both the soup and dry versions.
Of course, you can always go luxe with your order by getting the Extra Big Prawn Noodle (S$13.80), or topping it up with other ingredients like the Sliced Abalone (S$2), Pig’s Skin (S$1) or Pig’s Intestine (S$2).
The Big Prawn Noodle Dry version didn’t disappoint. The noodles are tossed with a tinge of chilli sauce, and the overall flavour is quite intense and delicious. Fresh prawns here, served along with a robust serving of luscious soup.
Oh, and I also love the copious amount of fried garlic!
I also tried the soup version of the Pork Ribs Prawn Noodle. The ribs are relatively tender, and I find that the prawn broth here is less ‘shiok’ than the pure prawn broth on its own. That said, soupy version still works for The Rantee who prefers soup over dry.
Rants Limited seats within the small coffeeshop is a killjoy.
Will I Return Again? Big Prawn Noodle is a very decent prawn mee option for Sengkang residents, and is definitely above average by hawker standards.
