What’s Buzzing? If you have always been a sourdough person, Tiong Bahru Bakery launched the TBB Sourdough Workshop recently where you get to learn how to make sourdough bread from scratch. I signed up for a class recently, and it was conducted by TBB Head Chef Paul Albert at Tiong Bahru Bakery Foothills.
What To Expect? Conducted at TBB Foothills, chef Paul is a sourdough expert and had previous baking experiences in countries like France and Brazil. For the workshops, it is at S$207.85 for beginner class and S$300 for intermediate class where the duration is approximately 4 hours. The sourdough workshop I attended was the beginner workshop and nope, you do not need prior baking experience to have fun at the dough.
I like the cosy and conducive space of the workshop where the class size is about 6-7 persons, so you get a good chance to interact and learn from chef.
The workshop includes theories on sourdough fermentation, preparation of the dough, and a walk-through of the methodical process till baking.
Of course, it is also free consultation time so feel free to blast your burning questions at chef. There will also be a short coffee break with TBB pastries and beverages.
At the end of the class, you also get to take home a starter kit, which has a starter jar, French flour, dough scraper, and more.
Overall Experience I am not a baker, neither do I bake in my leisure time. That said, I am interested in learning baking, and this class is a good start if you just want to find out more about the sourdough process, in a fun way.
