Food Review: Dickson Nasi Lemak At Joo Chiat Singapore | Delicious Nasi Lemak In Katong By Champion Bolo Bun Team

The Place Joo Chiat Road is buzzing with new eateries and the latest to open is Dickson Nasi Lemak, which I am very excited about. Located at 320 Joo Chiat Road in a shophouse unit right opposite Petit Pain, Dickson Nasi Lemak is run by the same team behind the popular Champion Bolo Bun, and their Nasi Lemak recipe is from a famed restaurant rated best Nasi Lemak in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The space of Dickson Nasi Lemak is meant for takeaway only, and despite so, it is very minimalist looking with random plants around.

The Food A very concise menu similar to Champion Bolo Bun, with mainly just the namesake Nasi Lemak on the menu, and various options to top up a drink for a set.

I went straight for the Ayam Goreng Berempah (S$8.60) which is a generous portion of Spiced Fried Chicken, Coconut Rice, Whole Chicken Leg, Egg, Cucumber, Anchovies and Sambal.

I was drawn to the fried chicken at first sight, topped with generous bits of addictive crumbs. You get that crispy layer of fried chicken skin which peels off easily for ease of savouring the delicious skin on its own. The chicken meat itself is very tender, and definitely better with the sambal sauce.

A noteworthy mention goes to the box of sambal sauce here, which is prepared with 18 ingredients. It is not too spicy and slightly sweet.

The rice here is not too lemak and just right for me, made from their homemade coconut milk. I also learnt from the staff that boiled egg is served at the moment instead of the typical runny egg.

Rants Hopefully there are plans for dine-in option at some point. The best way to enjoy Nasi Lemak is to have it right at the spot!

Will I Return Again? Overall, I like the Ayam Goreng Berempah at Dickson Nasi Lemak. Every element on the plate is executed well, and despite the slightly higher price than usual hawker stalls, it makes up for the huge fried chicken. Bookmark this if you are next in Joo Chiat.
