Food Review: Gemma Steakhouse At The National Gallery Singapore | Here Is How You Can Earn Up To 19mpd Spent On Dining Till June 2022

The Place Located in The National Gallery Singapore, I checked out Gemma Steakhouse recently, a contemporary and elegant looking 68-seater restaurant by the The ilLido Group. This steakhouse concept is by Italian Chef-Owner Beppe De Vito, who also runs other Italian dining concepts including the 1-Michelin-star Art and Braci

The Food I went for the Kris+ Gastronomy Series, which is a selection of exclusively created dining menus across various restaurant concepts in Singapore where you get to earn 15 miles per $1 spent (15mpd). Pair it with the right credit card such as the HSBC Revolution or DBS WWMC and you can earn up to 19 miles per $1 spent (19mpd), when you pay via the Kris+ App, which is linked to your Apple Pay or Google Pay. Another point to note is that the bonus 15mpd applies to the regular menu at the participating restaurants, and it is not just limited to the specially curated menus under the Kris+ Gastronomy Series.

Use my referral code “C893108” to register for Kris+ and we both get 750 KrisPay miles!

Priced at S$238 nett per pair, the meal at Gemma Steakhouse includes a selection of two appetisers, two pastas, a duo of prime steaks with one side and a dessert served sharing style. I personally find this set very good value as you get a variety of good quality dishes, on top of the extra miles you are going to earn. To sweeten the deal further, there is also an additional S$10 rebate (S$70 min. spend) with Mastercard® through Kris+ where the rebate will be credited into your Kris+ app.

For a start, I had the Burrata Campana, Medley of Beetroots, Toasted Pine Nuts and Pomegranate. The bitterness of the beetroot balances the creamy flavour of the burrata.

My second appetiser was the 12-Spices Swordfish Belly with Grilled Green Asparagus, Baby Artichoke Aioli and Paprika.

On to pasta, the first pasta I had was the Hand Shaped Eggplant Tortelli with Scampi, Zucchini Trombetta and Mint. Expect an al dente texture for the tortelli, and a flavourful profile from the scampi.

The second pasta was the 32-Yolk Taglierini with Aged Parmesan Emulsion & Piedmont’s hazelnuts. A portion good to share for two, the icing on the cake here for me is the aromatic Piedmont’s hazelnuts which complements the taglierini well.

The highlight of the meal is definitely the Gemma Duo Steak where I get a mix of the Jack’s Creek Black Angus Tenderloin [Au] and the Jac Wagyu Butcher’s Cut [AU]. Served with Bone Marrow Jus on the plate, it is easy to say that the Wagyu cut is the more flavourful one as compared to the tenderloin. Succulent and it is good on its own even without having with the bone marrow jus!

The steak comes with one side dish and it could not have been better than the Triple Cooked Potato Chips. Thick and fried to a nice golden-brown hue, these potato chips are dope! It is super crispy, and you can taste the freshness of the mashed potato within. So good!

For dessert, I had the Filo Pastry Cannelloni with White chocolate Earl Grey ganache & Smoked Gelato. The overall taste is not too sweet, and I really enjoyed the smoked gelato which is surprisingly very good.

Rants It would be better if the pacing between the courses is more consistent. That said, it was almost a fully packed restaurant capacity during my meal.

Will I Return Again? If you love steak and pasta, Gemma Steakhouse is worth a try. For miles chaser, you can earn up to 19mpd if you book and pay via the Kris+ Gastronomy Series paired with a 4mpd credit card linked to your Kris+ account via Apple Pay or Google Pay.
