The Place Nestled in the bustling heart of Melbourne, Tipo 00 is one of the most popular Italian restaurants in Melbourne city centre along Little Bourke Street. I did not make any reservations online as it was fully booked on the day I planned to go. However, I managed to book myself on the waiting list personally and I managed to secure a seat an hour later for a weekday dinner slot. The restaurant does allocate some seats for walk-in customers daily, and it helps that my hotel Hilton Melbourne Little Queen Street is a mere few minutes’ walk away.  

It is a warm and inviting atmosphere as I stepped into the restaurant. Wooden tables, soft lighting, and an open kitchen create a cosy yet upscale environment, perfect for both casual dinners and special occasions. 

The Food The pasta, for which the restaurant is particularly renowned, is made fresh daily. The relatively extensive menu is split into starters, pastas, mains and desserts. 

For a start, I had the Ostriche (AUD6 each) which features freshly shucked oyster & shallot vinegar. 

The Tartare di manzo ((AUD27) is a delicious plate of beef tartare which uses porterhouse beef along with baby leek & charcoal oil. 

I asked the staff to recommend me a pasta and the Pappardelle (AUD44) did not disappoint. I love the al dente texture of the pasta, and it comes with a flavourful braised duck, mushroom & pecorino combination. 

Rants The restaurant is perpetually packed, and you need to reserve well in advance. 

Will I Return Again?  There is a lot of hype around Tipo 00, be it from locals or tourists. Good pasta and its nice casual dining vibes are some of the reasons I can think of which makes Tipo 00 such a hit. Whether you are a local or a visitor, I think it is worth visiting Tipo 00 at least once.
