Snippets: Here’s what to expect for the new AMEX Card dining privileges | That includes up to 50% off dining at Shangri-La Hotel, The St. Regis Singapore, and more

If you happen to have an existing American Express Platinum Card or American Express AMEX Platinum Credit Card, here are some reasons to rejoice. From 1 July 2016 onwards, there will be new additions to the dining privileges on top of the list of restaurants previously under the Palate dining card arena (such as Nabehide Japanese Hot Pot Dining, Dancing Crab, Shima, Marmalade Pantry, TungLok XiHe Peking Duck, The Pelican Seafood Bar & Grill).

What’s new and YAY? One key highlight of the revised dining privileges is the addition of dining establishments in the following five hotels, where diners can enjoy up to 50% discount off their bills:

  • Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore
  • Raffles Hotel Singapore
  • The St. Regis Singapore
  • W Singapore – Sentosa Cove
  • Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel

Even though there are some trade-offs in the revised dining privileges (see my next point), I am still excited about these changes as it consist of some of the best hotels in Singapore. This will apply to the buffets at The Line at Shangri-La Hotel Singapore, Long Bar Steakhouse at Raffles Hotel Singapore, buffets at Marriott Café, Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel, selected a la carte menu of Brasserie Les Saveurs, LaBrezza, Yan Ting at The St. Regis Singapore, as well as SKIRT at W Singapore – Sentosa Cove. The catch is that you can only enjoy the dining discount off specific sections of the menu for some restaurants, such as only items from ‘The Grill and Specialties’ under the a la carte menu for Long Bar Steakhouse.

What’s new and NAY? Unfortunately, some benefits will be taken off alongside with the revision. Under earlier schemes, diners could have enjoyed up to 50% discount for Mikuni, Equinox and JAAN. However, with the revised dining rewards from 1 Jul 2016, there will only be a fixed 35% savings off total food bill for Mikuni & Equinox for up to ten (10) diners; and fixed 25% savings off the 7-course menu apply to JAAN for up to ten (10) diners.

The qualifying AMEX Cards: To enjoy these dining privileges, payment must be made with The Centurion® Card, The American Express® Platinum Card, The American Express® Reserve Credit Card or The American Express® Platinum Credit Card.

Overall verdict: In summary, it will be 18 new dining establishments from five hotels added as opposed to a downwards revision of the dining discount on three existing restaurants (Mikuni, Equinox and JAAN). To us, this is still a win-win scenario for diners as we will have more quality dining options to choose from.
