Food Review: Mo & Jo Sourdough Burgers at Greenwood Avenue | New Zealand inspired Burgers by the Baker & Cook team

The Place Greenwood Avenue is one of those quaint estate in Singapore to dine in. Meet Mo & Jo Sourdough Burgers, the latest casual dining burger restaurant which opened about a month ago. By the same team behind Baker & Cook and Plank Sourdough Pizza, the restaurant spots an open concept kitchen along with two outdoor tables.

The Food The main star is of course the burgers. There is a strong emphasis on its daily-baked sourdough buns from Baker & Cook for all the burgers, which Mo & Jo offers a wide variety of options to choose from. Some of the popular choices on the menu include the ‘Holy Smoke’ – beef patty, smoked bacon, caramelized onion, house mayo and BBQ sauce; ‘Naughty CCC’ – crumbed and fried chicken breast, camembert cheese and cranberry sauce; ‘The Barra’ – barramundi, lemon and caper mayo, tomato relish; or the New Zealand inspired ‘Classic Kiwi’ – a beef patty, beetroot, fried egg, cheddar, house mayo and mustard.

We tried both the Holy Smoke (S$19) and the Jo (S$18). The former is Rantee’s favourite, as with the house BBQ sauce and caramelised onion. For Jo, it is a classic cheeseburger which features an Australian grain fed beef patty, cheddar cheese, a salad of lettuce, tomato and Spanish onion, house mayo, mustard and tomato relish. The beef patties are good, cooked to medium by default, which are very juicy. Another noteworthy mention is the huge size of the burger here, which are quite messy to eat so be prepared to get your hands dirty.

The flavours of the Jo resonate better with me, I guess I am more of a classic person. You can also add sides such as the Curly Fries (S$6.50) to go along with the burgers. As with most burger joints, do not miss out on their milkshakes at S$10 a serving.

Rants The space is not that big here, which may be a problem for big groups. Most of the seats indoor are counter facing, while there are only two outdoor tables for 12.

Will I Return Again? The casual vibe of Mo & Jo Sourdough Burgers fits the Greenwood estate well where you can drop by for a casual meal. If you are craving for burgers away from the hustle and bustle of town, this is worth a try. Hopefully Mo & Jo has the mojo for you.

This was an invited tasting, though all opinions expressed are our own.

  1. Tried the Mo & Jo Babe pulled pork burger at Greenwood.

Overly sweet, mushy pulled pork & service was not friendly. Not a pleasant experience overall.
