Tenya
Japanese tendon from S$7.90? Japan’s number one Tendon chain restaurant, Tempura Tendon Tenya or popularly known as Tenya, has opened in Singapore at Orchard Central. Tenya is famous for its authentic, quality and value-for-money tendons, or tempura rice. The most value for money option is the Mushroom Vegetables Tendon (S$7.90), where the rice is topped with tempura vegetables such as shiitake, shimeji and enoki mushrooms, sweet potato, lotus root, pumpkin and French beans. Hvala Keong Saik
Popular Japanese cafe and tea house Hvala has opened its newest three storey shophouse outlet in the buzzing Keong Saik Road, right beside Potato Head Folk. A three storey cafe space in this vibrant enclave is definitely a luxury to have in Singapore, where you can expect a minimalist-style gorgeous Japanese inspired zen space that span across three levels. Go for the vegan Dairy-Free Waffles (S$11.80), where the buttermilk waffle is drizzled with maple syrup, a sprinkle of fragrant genmai (toasted rice), and you can choose a scoop of either the oatmilk or matcha one degree gelato. Ginza Shinto
The few weeks old Japanese restaurant in Robertson Quay Ginza Shinto spots a clean, minimalist look in typical Japanese wooden finishing. In terms of the menu, there are ala carte dishes, an Executive Set Lunch or simply go for the Omakase Menu. Seasonal and fresh produce is key for Chef Ron Newton Leo, the head chef at Ginza Shinto who has over 30 years of culinary experience under his belt. Most of the ingredients used are sourced from various parts of Japan, including Toyosu Fish Market in Tokyo. Therefore, the Omakase Menu is updated biweekly, subject to the availability of ingredients. [Read more here…]

Tang Lung Restaurant
Opened by the same team behind Le Fusion a few doors down, Tang Lung Restaurant is a new Chinese restaurant which opened in the buzzing Robertson Quay. Located beside the riverfront with outdoor and indoor seating, it is interesting that Tang Lung is one of the rare Chinese restaurant in this precinct. The interior of Tang Lung takes on a typical Chinese restaurant look, relatively open concept and the centrestage is undoubtedly the open kitchen. With over 60 dishes on the menu including dim sum, signature dishes include Steamed Flower Crab in Shaoxing Wine and Steamed Glutinous Rice with Crab Roe.

Cupping Room Coffee Roasters
This coffee brand hails from Hong Kong and just opened its first outlet in Singapore this month. The space occupies the passageway in Ngee Ann City and is relatively limited in seating capacity, though it is a good coffee addition to Orchard Road. Go for the hipster Avocado Toast option along with the robust coffee (from S$4 for House Black).

Glass Roasters
This new coffee spot in a quaint estate in the west is literally a hole-in-the-wall space. Glass Roasters was packed during my visit, and I like the charming and cosy space. Coffee flavour is smooth and robust, and do snag the outdoor tables for a more relaxed experience. We heard they start serving gelato as well, with the cafe’s kitchen operational only later this year.

Kream & Kensho
Taking over the space of the now-defunct Strangers’ Reunion along Kampong Bahru Road is the relatively new Kream & Kensho. I love the minimalist interior of the cafe, with a coffee counter table and there are beautiful arches which segments the space nicely. Expect Japanese elements in the dishes here, such as Kombu Fries, Sakura Ebi Capellini and Tempura. [Read more here…]

We love the new look of Min Jiang at Goodwood Park Hotel – it is chic, contemporary and very tastefully designed by acclaimed architect and interior designer, Ernesto Bedmar, who is also behind the look for Min Jiang at Dempsey. The Spicy Sliced Red Garoupa Soup with Preserved Cabbage and Roasted Chicken Skin with Prawn Paste in Sesame Pockets are some of the must try dishes other than dim sum. [Read more here…]

The One-Michelin starred restaurant in Resorts World Sentosa has a brand new European autumn menu, adding a dimension of deeper and smokier flavours into its gastronomic repertoire. Ginger at PARKROYAL on Beach Road Spots A Beautiful Revamped Garden Space
It used to be called Plaza Brasserie. Meet the revamped Ginger at PARKROYAL on Beach Road, a good looking buffet restaurant at the Beach Road hotel which reminds me nothing of its forgettable past. There is a strong focal point in the interior design of Ginger by award winning Singapore-based Australian designer Emma Maxwell, denominated by soothing pastel colours and floral wallpapers in a spacious setting. The dinner buffet has about 53 dishes on the menu, where the highlight are the local dishes like Laksa, Chicken Rice and Singapore Chilli Crab. [Read more here…]

New Chef And Dishes At Solo Ristorante
The Italian restaurant along Amoy Street has a new Chef/Partner Simone Fraternali, with a revamped menu where Chef Simone has introduced his signature dishes inspired by the northern region of Italy. Dishes to expect include the Wagyu Carpaccio, Tagliolini with Sea Urchin and Pappardelle with Pork Ragout.Where: 45 Amoy Street, Singapore 06987
Maxi Coffee Bar Relocated To Ann Siang Hill
It used to be a hole-in-the-wall shop along Club Street, which is one of the coffee joints near Telok Ayer which we enjoy visiting. The re-opening of Maxi Coffee Bar recently at their new location means a much bigger space than before. Decked in dreamy blue and white tones from the exterior to the interior, we like the blue tiled coffee tables at its entrance. The outdoor tables are along the walkway, which makes it a good spot for people watching while sipping coffee. It is a charming street to sip coffee, as this corner of Ann Siang Hill is less busy than the main stretch of Ann Siang Road. [Read more here…]
