Panda Picks: 10 New Japanese Omakase Restaurants To Check Out In Singapore in 2023

Tentsuru
Located at level two of The St. Regis Singapore, Tentsuru is a tempura centric Japanese Omakase restaurant in Singapore which has been opened for slightly over a year. There are not many tempura focused Omakase restaurants in Singapore, and I really like the space of Tentsuru from its entrance to the interior of the space. Most ingredients are air-flown from Japan, where Master Chef Daiki Kawaguchi presents elegant seasonal dishes that bring out the maximum umami. The restaurant does lunch and dinner Omakase menus, where lunch is at S$120++ or S$240++ per person, while dinner is at S$280++ or S$400++ per person. [Read more here…

Yuta
Orchard Plaza is not a typical mall we visit along Orchard Road and Yuta is one hidden gem. Located on level two of the mall, you cannot miss that bright blue box exterior of Yuta which serves only an Omakase menu. There is only one dinner Omakase menu for now, and it priced at a competitive S$115++ per person. [Read more here…]

Masa Saito
A relatively new restaurant, Masa Saito is a modern Japanese restaurant established by Chef Masa Saito. The space is an intimate L-shaped counter seating where you get a close view of the open kitchen. The restaurant only opens for dinner and offers set menus only for now where Chef Saito uses fresh seasonal ingredients to create a different dish each day, and unlike other traditional omakase restaurants I tried recently like Sushi Sei, it offers a completely new menu a few days later. There is only the 8-course Chef‘s Signature Course dinner menu. [Read more here…]

A new restaurant which opened at Suntec City recently, this is the Hokkaido brand’s first overseas outpost after 29 years and is often frequented by politicians, celebrities and even the Prime Minister of Japan and the Japanese Imperial Family. Founder Chef Shinchiro Nagai established the outlet in Hokkaido with his 54 years of experience alongside his son Makoto Nagai. Chef Makoto Nagai has 16 years of experience and now helms Nagai Hokkaido Cuisine Singapore. There are 15 lunch sets from S$28 as well as four omakase set menus, priced at S$98, S$138, S$198, and S$380. Each set and menu continue to focus on dishes prepared in the local Hokkaido traditional way, using ingredients from produce to meats and seafood flown in from Hokkaido. [Read more here…]

Ingredients are specially flown in from Toyosu Market in Tokyo and Hokkaido several times a week, where the Omakase Sushi Kaiseki Dinner Courses are priced at S$400, S$500 and S$600, comprising of up to six appetiser dishes followed by nigiri (sushi), dessert and freshly whisked matcha (green tea) to conclude the meal. A relatively new restaurant concept under the same group as four-time Michelin Plate awardee Kappo Shunsui, choose between two omakase course menus – the 20-courses Omakase (S$129++) or the Premium Omakase (S$159++) that offers 2-3 more courses including the Uni roll.
