New Restaurants

Liberty Coffee Bar
Mention local coffee roasters and Liberty Coffee Bar is definitely one of the names to come to our minds. The brand was created back in 2010 with no café space, and we are really glad that their first café space has opened a week ago in hipster Jalan Besar right beside Kam Leng Boutique Hotel and few doors down from CHAR Restaurant.  With a long shophouse setting, the entrance is a mini retail space where you can get your hands on its beans and merchandise. The setting is casual with simple tones of predominantly wood, white and black. If you are looking for other dining inspirations in Jalan Besar, here is our list of recommendations in this enclave. Origin Grill & Bar
Love steaks? Origin Grill & Bar is one of the latest dining concepts to open at Shangri-La Singapore, which has a diverse beef selection featuring featuring grass- and grain-fed, pure-, cross- and full-blooded Angus and Wagyu beef, from Australia and Ireland. The highlight though, is the Snow-Aged Full Blood Wagyu A4 from Niigata, Japan. It is the first time I heard of snow aged beef, which goes by the Yukimuro method here. The meat is preserved and aged in a traditional snow-covered room to for it to develop the sweetness and mellowness. [Read more here…]

FOC Pim Pam spots a New Space and Concept
Opened by the same team behind FOC Restaurant at Hong Kong Street, FOC Pim Pam at Orchard Road is a more fun and casual dining concept which went through a revamp in its space and menu recently. There are more distinct zones like the Tapas Bar, Main Dining Room, Private Dining Room, Bar and outdoor Terrace. Casual tapas menu is available at the Tapas Bar and Terrace, while the full menu at the Main Dining Room. For main dishes, the Ibérico Secreto Pork & Mushroom Paella is one of my favourite dishes here, which has the right moist texture mixed with seasonal mushrooms (ceps, oyster & button mushrooms), along with the impossibly succulent Ibérico Secreto Pork (a lean cut from the back shoulder). For drinks, the options are extensive with a noteworthy mention that FOC Pim Pam has the widest collection of Sherries in Southeast Asia. [Read more here…]

Le Binchotan’s Uni and Caviar is Love
Chef Jeremmy used to be the head chef at this French-Japanese restaurant and bar, and he has now doubled up as Chef-owner of the 35-pax restaurant. While some of the signature dishes on the menu remains, more than half of the dishes have been refreshed. Start with the Uni and Caviar, and the Edible Charcoal, spring roll stuffed generously with Angus beef short ribs. For mains, the Char-Pork Jowl and Sakura Ebi Capellini won’t go very wrong.
