Food Review: Guan Kee Kway Chap At Toa Payoh Lorong 8 | Delicious And Affordable Kway Chap In Toa Payoh

The Place Despite being a small estate, there are a couple of food centres in Toa Payoh and one of them is Toa Payoh Lorong 8 Market & Food Centre, home to a couple of good hawker stalls including Guan Kee Kway Chap. This stall has been around in this food centre for many years, and it is run by a couple. The man at the centre of it is Mr Ng, who has been cooking Kway Chap since the 1980s. That is more than 30 years in the trade!

The Food One person set is priced at S$3.50, though the One Person Large Set (S$5.50) may be more value for money as it comes with ingredients like Tau Pok, Braised Egg, Pork Skin, Pork Belly, Pork Intestine and Fish Cake. The stall also sells Braised Pig’s Trotter!

I ordered my customised mix of ingredients and has a mix of the above except the pork intestine. Despite my takeaway order, it is overall a very good meal at home. I love the meats, the sliced pork and pork belly are delicious and so tender. Another secret ingredient is the chilli sauce, so good! It goes well perfectly with the meats, or even the beancurd.

The flat rice sheets is needless to say, one of my favourite component and highlight of having Kway Chap and this version has a very good and flavourful broth.

Rants A popular stall in this hawker centre and do not be surprised to spot a long queue.

Will I Return Again? Overall, I like every component of Guan Kee from the broth of the rice sheets to the meats. This stall is definitely worth a try if you enjoy Kway Chap.
