Food Review: Sunday Champagne Brunch Buffet At Colony, The Ritz-Carlton Millenia Singapore | What To Expect At The Redesigned Buffet Experience

The Place I have not been doing much buffets the past year, and when I do, I make sure it is a worthy one. Colony restaurant, located at The Ritz Carlton Millenia Singapore, is one of the best buffet restaurants in Singapore in my opinion. The grand interior design with white pearl ceiling which allows ample natural light to diffuse into the restaurant is gorgeous. The design of the whole restaurant is ingenious too, split into cosy sofa booth seats, long tables for bigger groups or intimate corner tables ideal for couples, the design has every group size in mind well.

The Food The tricky situation with Covid-19 means a new way of operation for buffet restaurants, and Colony is no exception. Smaller dining groups, safe distancing, minimal human interaction, are all part of the new norm. For Colony, QR codes are placed on every table where you simply scan to view the menu. I visited the redesigned Sunday Brunch recently and what I really appreciate is the clear visuals for every featured dish in the buffet, to save diners the trouble of visualising the dish themselves, and from an operational perspective, it helps in reducing unnecessary checks with the service staff.

Priced at S$178++ per person, the brunch includes unlimited pours of Champagne Barons de Rothschild Reserve Ritz Brut NV, house pour red/white wines, cocktails, selected Colony craft beers, soft drinks and fruit juices.

There are 60 dishes on the Sunday Brunch Menu, and simply order through the staff and your dishes will be served to your table.

I started with some cold starters like the delicious Duck Foie Gras Parfait with Red Wine Jelly and Bread Stick, freshly shucked Oysters, and my obligatory Sashimi Platter.

Eggs are a must, especially when it reads Lobster Eggs Benedict. One thing I noted is that every dish is plated beautifully, despite it being an individual portion and I can only imagine the sheer effort by the culinary team to plate each dish individually. The eggs are nicely done, and the bright yellow yolk oozed out perfectly on top of the butter brioche it rested on.

The Grill section of the menu is one of the main highlights for me. This section is where you will find the likes of Cognac-infused Lobster Bisque, Duck Foie Gras in Garlic Herb Bruschetta, Slow-Baked Onyx Beef Tomahawk with Red Wine Jus, Seared Boston Lobster with Chardonnay Nage, Roasted Pork Shoulder Porchetta with Ratatouile and Porcini Mushroom Sauce, and the Pan-seared Atlantic Cod.

Every dish in the grill section hit the right notes for me but if you are calories conscious (though an oxymoron in a buffet context), my favourites are the Slow-Baked Onyx Beef Tomahawk where the beef is succulent; the crackling Roasted Pork Shoulder Porchetta; and the flavourful Seared Boston Lobster.

Other sections on the Sunday Brunch include local delights like Chicken Rice, Satay and Colony Laksa; pasta dishes, wok-fried Chinese dishes and Indian cuisine. For desserts, expect a selection of cheeses, macarons, cakes, crepes suzette, waffle and ice-cream, local kuehs, Colony peanut wrap, and more.

Rants The price of the Sunday Brunch buffet at Colony is undeniably one of the priciest in town.

Will I Return Again? I have always enjoyed my dining experience at Colony, love the space and quality of the food. Prices are on the higher end, but it is worthwhile to treat yourself to a good buffet meal once in a while.

This was an invited tasting, though all opinions expressed are our own.
