Food Scoops: Best Braised Duck Rice in Singapore | Our Favourite Stalls For ‘Lor Ark’

Chuan Kee Boneless Braised Duck
Located at Ghim Moh Market & Food Centre, Chuan Kee Boneless Braised Duck has been around more than a decade and is listed on the Michelin Bib Gourmand list. The duck rice starts from S$3 here, and you can opt to add on other side ingredients like egg, braised tofu (Tau Kwa) and braised beancurd skin (Tau Ki). I had a platter of duck meat, along with egg, braised tofu and beancurd skin for two people, which costs S$12.50. The price is very reasonable in my opinion. The first thing I did is to dive straight into the duck meat, and it was oh-so-heavenly. The braised duck meat is very flavourful and beyond tender, where the secret dark sauce plays a big part in the flavour. [Read more here…]

Hup Seng Duck Rice
Located at Sin Ming, Hup Seng Duck Rice has been a mainstay for many when it comes to braised duck rice. For their Braised Duck, the meats are very tender and well-seasoned. The Teochew-styled braised sauce whilst light, packs much punch. Go easy on the sauce when you drizzle your rice with it, though if you are like me and love strong flavours, feel free to give yourself a generous pour of the sauce. [Read more here…]

Ah Seng Braised Duck
This is one Braised Duck Rice stall which I have been visiting since young at Serangoon Garden Market & Food Centre. Ah Seng serves Teochew-styled Braised Duck, so you should expect the sauce to be light and watery, unlike the luscious sauce we see in Hokkien-style Braised Duck. The subtle herbs flavour in the sauce makes it perfect to go with plain rice, which I will typically drench it completely with the sauce. [Read more here…]

Ah Xiao Teochew Duck Rice
Located at Golden Mile Food Centre along Beach Road, the man behind Ah Xiao is a second generation hawker, Rui Hai, whom has managed to perfecting the art of braising a good plate of traditional Teochew braised duck from his retired parents. The delish Braised Duck Rice is Teochew style so you will get the more watery zup, and I usually love my rice drenched with the braising sauce – yes, drenched! The sauce at Ah Xiao is not as oily and salty, allowing me to enjoy the rice without feeling too jelat. [Read more here…]

Seng Huat Duck Rice
Located at Sembawang Hills Food Centre, Seng Huat does Teochew-style braised duck, which has a more watery and light sauce. The Braised Duck Rice Set (from S$4.50 per pax) here is served in this rather old-school flower-print plates, though that is not a reason why you should visit here. The tender meats are chopped thinner than the usual, though that ensures the meats gets well drenched by the braised sauce. [Read more here…]

Hollywood Braised Duck Rice
Located in Sims Vista Market & Food Centre, Hollywood Braised Duck Rice is one of the more popular stalls here. I had a platter of various meats like braised duck meat, pig skin, braised egg and braised beancurd, along with a plate rice. I like the dark gravy here, which is luscious and one of the most important aspect in a delicious plate of braised meats. The duck meat is tender and well soaked in the dark sauce, while the texture of the pig skin is just right. Don’t neglect the accompanying soup as well, which I really like it for its intense flavour. [Read more here…]

Long House Soon Kee (Boneless) Braised Duck Rice
Started at Jalan Besar’s Long House, Soon Kee Duck Rice found home at Ang Mo Kio in recent years. The duck here is fully de-boned, and the gravy (or I usually referenced this as the ‘zum’) is of the luscious texture. Very tender and moist duck meats, which I will strongly encourage you to have with yam rice. [Read more here…]
